We recently introduced you to Amber who represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. Having released an album at the end of 2016, CelebMix had a quick chat with Amber to find out more about her Eurovision experience, her new album, and her plans for the future.
What was it like representing Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015?
It’s been a wonderful experience which has been full of emotion. It’s been a kind of hectic year, but fun. I’m excited to take my career a step further from Eurovision and try something new.
What did you make of Ira Losco, who represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest last year?
I was always a huge fan since I was little of Ira Losco. From the very first time she performed ‘7th Wonder’ and having come back to Eurovision, I think it was very exciting not only for the Maltese but all of her fans. I just like ‘Walk on Water’ very much, I think it’s a different style to what we usually hear from the Eurovision. I am very much proud of her.
What do you hope Malta will bring to the Eurovision Song Contest this year?
I hope, apart from having a very positive song, I hope they will be a very powerful singer in terms of the voice, but also in terms of the way they present themselves, being very well known with the band. I think it’s going to be a very tough competition. I’m looking forward to the 18th because the winner is going to be picked. Obviously, I wish the very best of luck to all of the contestants which some of them are very good friends of mine. I am very proud of them.
You released your debut album ‘Redemption’ in November 2016. What was it like bringing out music you had worked so hard on?
It’s my first album and it was so much fun to work on. I had the opportunity to work on the lyrics and then go onto the production. I was involved in the production and the editing, so it’s sort of like my baby. We’ve spent a year and a half working on something I believe has evolved into something amazing and it’s very exciting.
Who are your musical influences?
I’m a huge fan of Etta James she’s my idol, Beyoncé, she announced the other day that she was going to have twins and I am very excited for that. I also like Ray Charles, I’m a huge fan of jazz and blues so I think these kind of artists have inspired me a lot in my career, definitely.
What is an achievement that you are most proud of?
Before, it was definitely the Eurovision. For me, getting to represent my country is something I’ve always wanted to do from a very young age. But now, I think releasing my album, my very first album, is something I’ve wanted to do since day one. Also, getting to sign an exclusive management contract with Universal Talent Group is a very big stepping stone in my career.
What else can we expect from you in the future?
I’m definitely working on some new material, which I am very excited to share, and I’m also working on some new covers. I’m just excited for my fans to get to know me even more and not only as a person, but as a performer. Obviously, I’m going to be touring the UK doing various festivals. At the moment, I’m living in the studio working on all this stuff, which I’m very much looking forward to.
Out of everything you have planned, which are you looking forward to most?
I think the thing I’m most looking forward to is touring, it’s something new for me so I’m very excited. I can sing some covers which are favourites of mine, but also, I get to sing some songs from the album, Redemption, which is now available on iTunes.
Do you have a message for your supporters?
I just want to thank them for all of their support. I couldn’t be here without their support. At the end of the day, my music is for them all and I hope they keep on following me because I have a lot of exciting things to announce, particularly if they follow me on social media (imamberofficial).
